Bahwan IT achieves ISO 9001:2000 Certification

Bahwan IT LLC, which is a part of the Suhail Bahwan Group has been awarded the prestigious QMS ISO 9001:2000 certification.

The certification was awarded by Bureau Veritas, Oman, one of the world's top most certification bodies, following a rigorous review process of Bahwan IT Quality management System. The certification was formally awarded to Ms. Amal Suhail Bahwan, Director, Bahwan IT, at a recent ceremony, by Mr. Shakir Rasheed, Bureau Veritas, Oman.

Shakir Rasheed, commented, "Bahwan IT has established and continues to maintain top class customer focus based model in the operational regime which truly deserves this accreditation. During the certification process, Bureau Veritas has observed excellent documentation, higher degree of system awareness among the process owners.

Bahwan IT steps up focus on Enterprise offerings

Bahwan IT is stepping up its focus on offering business solutions for midsize enterprises. This was revealed at a special seminar hosted by Bahwan IT for their partners 3i Infotech and HP at Grand Hyatt Hotel today.

The market for business solutions in the mid-sized enterprises segment is set to witness a 20 percent growth this year despite adverse economic conditions, said M.K. Janaki Raman, General Manager, Bahwan IT.

3i Infotech and HP are the partners of Bahwan IT as it makes its thrust into the segment. A majority of the enterprises in the Middle East fall within this category. The definition of a mid-size enterprise varies from market to market said Janaki Raman.

3i Infotech's flagship product Orion, which comes in three flavors, is the choice ERP product for this segment. Orion Advantage is the verticalized industry solution for mid-size companies. Orion is unique that it is a product that was born out of needs of the region; primarily UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman. The product's advantage is that it is easily deployable. Anas Mayalackara, regional Sales Manager of 3i Infotech, said a majority of the business in the Middle East fall in the trading and distribution category and Orion is suitable for this segment because of its scalability.

Sandeep Chhabra of HP said at the seminar that Integrity servers based on 64-bit architecture, which are highly secure, provide the best performance needed for hosting the Orion ERP application and other business critical business applications.

Bahwan IT wins Oman Web Awards

Bahwan IT's website www.bahwant.com won the bronze award in the category of Software & Telecommunication/ICT at the Oman Web Awards 2008 function held at Al Bustan Palace hotel on 28th Feb, 2009.

This is the second consecutive year that Bahwan IT's website is winning Oman Web Awards. The website had won gold in the Corporate category of the Oman Web Award 2007.

The Oman Web Awards is in its fourth successful year which serves as an inspiration to all the Web designing companies, designers and freelancers. It rewards the creators for their skills and also encourages the novel spirit of the web designers to meet professional and international standards and helps in developing an interactive community that aims at providing recognition to this e-sector in the most exceptional way. The competition helps raise the standards of web design and website services and promotes intellectual property awareness.

The event was organized under the auspices of Information Technology Authority (ITA), the apex government body for Information Technology in the Sultanate.

Towards ISO 9001 Certification

Bahwan IT has been already following its Quality standards for the past many years. ISO certification will help us put down what we already do, in black and white. Seminar on PUPM Solution

During the McAfee Security Seminar held at Grand Hyatt yesterday, McAfee has awarded Bahwan IT LLC with “Partner of the Year 2007” status. The award was given by Mr. Samer Malak, Channel Manager, MEM, McAfee to Mr. M.K. Janaki Raman, General Manager – Bahwan IT LLC. Bahwan IT website wins gold.

Bahwan IT website was adjudged the best website of the year 2007 under the corporate category of the Oman Web Awards ceremony held at Muscat Intercontinental Hotel on 8th March 2008. Mr. M.K. Janaki Raman, General Manager, Bahwan IT LLC received the Gold Award from HE Shaikh Al Fadhel bin Mohammed al Harthy, Under Secretary of the Ministry of National Economy and Deputy Chairman of IT Authority.

This award is given annually to the best websites in Oman. This year, the Oman Web Awards 2007, was organized under the auspices of Information Technology Authority (ITA), the apex government body for Information Technology in the Sultanate. There were around 170 entrants across various categories, who participated in this competition.  This is the first time Bahwan IT has participated in the competition.

"We are happy that we were able to achieve this in our maiden attempt.  Lot of hard work has gone in its creation and we have strived to make our website user-friendly and have tried to provide as much information as possible without compromising on theme and quality."  said Mr. Janaki Raman.

BusinessToday - 50 who left their footprints in 2007.

BusinessToday (Jan 2008 issue) has listed Mr. Janaki Raman, General Manager - Bahwan IT as one among the 50 individuals, who left a mark in 2007.

The magazine writes "True success is often measured by the difference that an individual makes to society. Business Today takes a look at 50 such individuals who left a mark in 2007, not just in business but in a much wider sense, encompassing every sphere of activity. Our list includes businessmen, sports personalities, social workers, doctors, environmentalists and even two children; the one thing that all of them have in common is that they dared to dream." Bahwan IT was instrumental in IT-enabling the Majlis A'Shura Elections held during October 2007. BusinessToday wrote "The Majlis as 'Shura elections in October 2007 stood out for a number of reasons. One of those was the fact that Bahwan IT designed a foolproof, zero-defect IT-enabling system to conduct the election. This made Oman the only country in the region to have a fully automated election system. Says Raman, "It was important for the sultanate as these elections have high visibility." There were 50 personnel from the international media covering the election along with a number of representatives from various governments and NGOs. The success of the entire exercise can be gauged by the fact that observers from Qatar have expressed interest in following a similar process there." Bahwan IT, IT enables the Majlis A'Shura Elections

The Majlis A'Shura 6th term election was conducted successfully on October 27th, 2007.  84 members were elected to the Majlis A'Shura Council through polling conducted in 61 wilayats of Oman.

Bahwan IT LLC was contracted by Ministry of Interior, the main government body to supervise and conduct the elections, for the second successive Majlis elections to provide the complete IT platform for this year’s polls. It has teamed up with UK based Data Research and Services Ltd (DRS), which specializes in providing IT services for elections, censuses, and educational projects, as its technology partners.

Bahwan IT’s scope of work spanned from providing consultancy to the ministry on how the entire process would be conducted to designing the ballot paper, providing the vote sorting machine, software for the vote sorting, logistics and training.

The design of the ballot papers was a challenge in itself as 61 different ballot papers, one for each wilayat, were printed along with color photographs of individual candidates. They also had check digits and embedded characters making duplication impossible. The ballot papers’ features facilitated in fast identification and counting. Bahwan IT brought state of the art PS900 e-Counting scanners from UK-based DRS. Using its Photo-Scribe platform of technology, the DRS PS900 imaging scanner validates every ballot paper as it is scanned. The PS900 combines the speed, accuracy and economy of Optical Mark Recognition with the advantages of full or partial ballot images.
